This beautiful historical site was built in 1838 as the summer home of Hawaiian royalty. Perched directly on the ocean on Kailua Bay, it is constructed of lava rock, coral mortar, ohia and koa timbers. The Daughters of Hawaii operate the home as a museum and historical site and it is available for outdoor functions on the lawn. Robertson Estate
Built in 1947 from a recycled redwood railroad bridge, the gracious plantation manager’s beach home is reminiscent of Hawaii’s plantation era. Its 10 foot ceilings, indoor and outdoor lanais capture the feel of Hawai’i in the early part of the century. In front of the home are three white sand beaches. The beginnings of Parker Ranch date back to 1809 when John Palmer Parker, a sailor from Massachusetts first landed on the island of Hawaii. Befriended by King Kamehameha, he married a Hawaiian princess and began domesticating the wild cattle and horses that roamed the Big Island’s volcanic slopes. Starting in 1847, he and his descendants amassed the land holdings now known as Parker Ranch. Today, Parker Ranch is one of the largest cattle ranches in the United States and home of Hawaii’s cowboy - the Paniolo! The covered stands offer prime viewing of all the action, including: calf ribbon tying, barrel racing, double mugging, bronc riding, flag race, team branding, team roping and more. That is all after the “Pa’u” riders greet you, on horseback, each attired in costumes representing each of the Hawaiian islands. Pukalani Stables at Parker Ranch is framed by beautiful jacaranda trees and lush pastures filled with livestock and cattle. This authentic stable is the perfect setting for a real authentic Paniolo experience. The U-shaped building has indoor seating for 180 guests and outdoor seating for many more. The courtyard is the best spot for those interactive cowboy games and perhaps a saddle making demonstration, or some line dancing.
